Island Peak also known as Imja Tse is one of the most popular trekking peaks in Nepal located at Khumbu valley for climbing on Himalayas. The combination of Everest base camp trek and Island Peak climbing is probably the best trip in Nepal adored by adventure seekers.
For many mountaineers climbing Island Peak marks the beginning of climbing on Himalayas to prepare for a big Himalaya expedition in Nepal in the later years. For some mountaineers the peak stands for the purpose of acclimatization before heading to bigger mountain climbing. Trekking to Kaalapatthar or Everest base camp is best suited for acclimatization before proceeding to the climbing on Island Peak.
Our representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. If time permits, we will have a brief meeting about the trekking in our office. O/N at hotel.
Before heading to trekking route, you must have trekking permits and TIMS. While we arrange these things, you can enjoy a day of Kathmandu city tour with our tour guide. In the evening, we will purchase necessary things for trekking. O/N at hotel.
Our guide will pick you up from the hotel and drive you to the airport. You will catch early morning flight to Lukla. It takes about 45 minutes to reach Lukla. After taking breakfast in Lukla, trek to Phakding (2610m). O/N at logde.
After taking breakfast, trek to Namche Bazaar, the famous town in Solukhumbu. The last 3 hours of this trek will be tougher but the gorgeous sceneries around the route enthrall you so that you will forget your tiredness. O/N at lodge
To adjust your body with the high altitude, we will spend the day for acclimatization. During daytime, you can explore beautiful Khumjung village or take one hour walk up to the Everest View Hotel for the sunset view of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse and Everest. O/N at lodge.
start your journey uphill to reach Tengboche. From here, one can get a spectacular panorama of Ama Dablam and Thamserku rising in the horizon. Tengboche is famous for its legendary monastery, the largest in the Khumbu region. O/N at lodge.
We descend for half an hour to the river side through nice forest, cross the river and start trekking up towards opposite hills and landscapes. We will cross a traditional and cultural Sherpa village Pangboche. After this, we make a gradual uphill trek towards a wide mountain valley- Pheriche. This is a nice wide village located on the riverside. O/N at lodge.
This will be the second acclimatization day. If you wish you can visit for a day in the nearby valley. O/N at guest house.
Today, we take an easy walk up to Duglha (4,620m), stop here for lunch. Beyond Duglha we trek up the steep terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and continue our trek to Lobuche. As the trail drops to the Khumbu Glacier moraine, we find ourselves right "in front of" several great peaks - Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. O/N at guest house.
Lobuche to Gorek Shep is a short trek and can be completed within 3-4 hours. After taking rest a few hours at Gorek Shep, we will trek towards Everest Base Camp in the evening to view the beautiful sunset over the majestic Mt. Everest.Then we will return back to Gorek Shep. O/N at guest house.
Your journey will start early in the morning. About a 2 hours hike you will reach Kalapatthar. This place is well known as a perfect viewpoint to see all major parts of the Himalayan range, including Mt. Everest itself. If the weather permits, you will get an opportunity to see a fascinating sunrise that you will not find elsewhere in the world. From Kalapatthar return back to Gorek Shep for lunch. Shortly afterwards, you will descend back to Periche for overnight stay.
Today our walk is easy as compared to the pervious day. We take a smooth way until we reach Dingboche for lunch. Then, we hike another 2 hours to reach Chhukung. Upon arrival in Chhukung, our climbing guide will check your climbing equipments and brief island peak summit plan. O/N at guest house.
Today after breakfast, we heads further on to the steep way climbing southern part then turning east to the main line of the valley. A criss-cross route through the Imja and Lhotse glacier moraines leads to a wide valley flanking the SW side of Island peak. O/N at tented camp.
This morning we pack our camping stuff and head on to the High camp. As you climb the hill, you will see that the slope narrows and the path enter a steep rock channel nearby where we'll spend overnight at camp.
Begin your climb early in the morning, generally around 2 AM. At the beginning, we climb the rock gully. This is not difficult but there are several short rock steps to climb before we emerge on the right side of the gully. The route then follows a ridgeline, which leads to an exhilarating and exposed traverse onto the snout of the summit glacier. We need to rope up for the glacier as it contains several crevasses. The guides will fix a rope wherever necessary. A steep snow slope leads us onto the summit ridge. After enjoying the summit views and taking pictures, we descend all the way to Chhukung. O/N at guest house.
The trek comes down from Chukkung following Pangboche. The Imja Khola joins the Dudh Koshi River a little above the Pangoche village. There is a famous gompa at Pangboche believed to have been the oldest in the Khumbu region. The trail comes all the way down to river. We cross the river and take an hour walk up through the forest to reach Tyangboche. O/N at lodge.
We descend through forest towards the riverside, across the river and take a walk up to a big hill to reach Namche. O/N at hotel.
Trek down to Lukla via Phkading. O/N at lodge.
Fly back to Kathmandu where we will transfer you to your hotel.
On this day, you will engage in shopping and enjoy with Nepali food at Thamel, a tourism hub of Nepal. You will buy souvenir for your nearest and dearest at your choice.
After breakfast, the trip ends. Our representative will transfer you to the airport for your next destination. Even if you wish to stay longer in Nepal and depart on a later date, we would always love another opportunity to serve you.
